REVIEW : ADRENALINE RUSH -- Soul Survivor (2017)

To be honest here, I really liked the debut album of Adrenaline Rush. It was a damn fine slice of pure early 90's hard rock stuff with a modern rock approach and included a bunch of some killer tunes in it. Nowadays, Adrenaline Rush comes back with album number two with the title "Soul Survivor". Erik Mårtensson (Eclipse, W.E.T.) was once again involved as a sounding board, co-writing a song and mastering the finished tracks.

This time the band takes the whole thing a step forward regarding the debut. The sound in "Soul Survivor" is a bit heavier and more 'complex' than in the debut but still includes all the elements that made the debut a great one.

I didn’t want to make another album just like the first one,” Tåve (lead vox) says. “I’ve grown since we recorded the first, I am in a different place. And I feel the album reflects that. The new tracks really complement the old instead of replacing them; they add a new dimension and gives us a broader spectrum of songs to choose from when playing live.”

The new direction can be heard in the opening tune of "Adrenalin". More muscle, more attitude, more solos and an overall bigger sound makes this track a highlight!! It seems that the new kid on board, Sam Soderlindh (lead guitar) has brought a new and fresh air to the band's sound and that's a thing that can be heard, also, in every single track here. The guitars are bigger and with a 'fat' sound and givin' an extra flavor to the final result. "Breaking The Chains", the hard hitting "Stand My Ground" and "My Life" are all solid heavy rockers that makes you wanna turn up the volume on 10!!! "Wild Side" is yet another killer track out of "Soul Survivor"; melodic and at the same time heavy with a chorus line to die for this one is one of my personal favorites! Check out the groovier and cool tune of "Don't Wake Me Up".

Adrenaline Rush with "Soul Survivor" offers a more mature and heavier opus that the sure thing is that will be appreciated by each and every fan of the female-fronted modern melodic heavy rock sound.

Rating : 8/10
